"Khomeini knew how to build networks — today's opposition doesn't." That line is the laziest way to avoid the truth.
In 1978, Iranians openly raised funds for strikers. Nobody was arrested for it. Nobody's property was seized. No prison sentence for helping a protester.
Today? Supporting one protester or one prisoner's family means a case file, detention, and confiscated assets.
And here's the real point: even if the Shah had done all of that — arrests, prison, seizures — Khomeini would still have succeeded. So the comparison isn't about "networking" skills. It's about the dimensions people refuse to examine.
Compare all you want. But half a comparison just whitewashes today's repression.
