"We have no permanent friends and no permanent enemies — only permanent interests."
Not a slogan from social media. Those are the words of Henry John Temple, Lord Palmerston, British Prime Minister in the 1850s–60s. And it remains the operating principle of every serious state today.
The argument in this clip is blunt:
▪️ Iranians are a generous, noble-minded people — sometimes to their own cost.
▪️ The same voices who spare nothing when criticizing their own suddenly fall silent when a foreign actor is involved — especially one who has done something that served the Iranian people.
▪️ In international politics, politeness is not a strategy. Say what serves Iran. And say what — on closer examination — is dangerous for Iran. No flattery. No hedging.
Gratitude is one thing. Suspending your judgment is another. National interest is not managed with sentiment.
