Iran in Our DNA — Episode 1: Layer One: Zagros What makes you Iranian? The answer is in the soil under your feet. About 10,000 years ago, on the slopes of the Zagros, the first farmers of this soil founded one of the world's oldest agricultural societies — and their genetic signature is still the dominant one in Iranians today. A 2025 study of ancient DNA from the northern Iranian plateau showed nearly 3,000 years of genetic continuity — from the Copper Age to the end of the Sassanians. The soil kept its memory. But no one began from nothing. Every layer rests on a layer beneath it. Layer Two is coming. Save this. Follow for Part 2.
