When they say "Persian Gulf," they're not defending the name.
The meeting between Iran's parliament speaker Ghalibaf and Iraq's parliament speaker was reportedly extremely tense — the subject was the Strait of Hormuz and oil transit, and Ghalibaf used the name "Persian Gulf."
But don't be fooled. The name only matters to them as leverage. The country itself doesn't.
Remember:
▪️ Ali Larijani claimed Iranians were "savages" before Islam.
▪️ Hassan Nasrallah — beloved by the entire Islamic Republic establishment, from Karroubi, Khatami and Rafsanjani to Khamenei and Ghalibaf — said there is no such thing as "Persian culture."
A name that is identity for a nation is nothing but a bargaining chip for this regime.
