"Where exactly was Khomeini's 'organizing'?"
One of the biggest myths about 1979 is that Khomeini built a vast organizational machine and engineered the revolution.
History says otherwise. He turned people away even when they traveled all the way to Paris — this one has no hijab, that one is National Front, that one is something else. What organizing? The people whose goal aligned with his did the work themselves.
And here's why it matters today: the same myth is recycled to attack Prince Reza Pahlavi. "Why doesn't he give orders? Why isn't he organizing everything?"
He is the leader of the transition — the safeguard against Iran's collapse. The groundwork belongs to the activists inside the country.
A symbolic leadership that inserts itself into every small detail becomes far easier to destroy. The smear campaigns know this. That's exactly the point.
