"Neither faction is better than the other — one is worse than the other."
At the top of power in Iran there are two camps: the negotiators and the confrontationists. But that split is not a choice between good and bad.
Both camps kill the people.
Both are worried about one thing only — the survival of the Islamic Republic.
▪️ Pezeshkian and Ghalibaf: "Make a deal and the system won't fall."
▪️ The other camp: "Go to war and the system won't fall."
The common denominator: regime survival. Not the people.
Tonight's missile strikes on the office of Masrour Barzani, PM of the Kurdistan Region, in Erbil suggest the confrontationists currently have the upper hand. Their logic: oil revenue cut, ports blockaded, Washington sees no reason to sit at the table — so the status quo hurts the Islamic Republic.
And the bill, as always, is paid by ordinary people.
