Recent statements by Mohammad Reza Bahonar, a senior member of the regime’s Expediency Council, clearly exposed the authorities' deep contempt for the public. He claimed that war only becomes "serious and valid" if Tehran or Isfahan are targeted. This overt centralism dismisses the suffering and devastation endured by citizens across the south, east, west, and periphery of Iran. Viewing the survival of the state solely through the safety of the ruling elite proves once again that the regime has completely alienated itself from the nation.
