The Islamic Republic's survival has been a blessing for Washington, Doha, Ankara and Riyadh. Billions flowed into the U.S. treasury and Saudi coffers — while Iran was hollowed out. Khomeini's system, the reformists' version, today's version — all of them torched Iran's national interest. They made a country like Qatar a power player on the world stage.
